About OzMade
Musicals
OzMade Musicals is an annual
concert by Magnormos Productions that celebrates and showcases Australian music
theatre writing.
OzMade Musicals debuts up to four new works through ‘On the Drawing
Board’, and combines their presentation with ‘OzMade Flashbacks’, which remember
highlights from existing musicals.
The works presented ‘On the Drawing Board’ are selected from a
national submission process hosted by Australian Musicals.com.
Each
work is given up to one week of development time with professional
creatives, and presented as a 15 minute scene and song vignette at
the
OzMade Musicals concert.
‘OzMade Flashbacks’ are curated separately, and often involve the
original performers and creative teams.
Previous OzMade Musicals have included:
• THE BEAUTY SPOT (David W Young)
• Metro Street (Matthew Robinson)
• Joe Starts Again (Martin Croft and Dean Lotherington)
• Love Equals (Craig Christie and Kristin Keam)
• Virgins (Dean Bryant and Mathew Frank)
• All Het Up (John Thorn, Fiona Thorn and Guy Rundle)
• Paris (Jon English and David Mackay)

Why
OzMade Musicals is important
Because music theatre is important, and so are the Australians that
are writing it.
Music theatre fuses the languages of music, drama, dance and design
into a popular, accessible art form. In Australia, musical theatre
is dominated by the import of international work, and Australian
audiences are generally denied hearing their local voice. The
musical, as an art form, inevitably intersects with the world of
commercial theatre. Musicals are dependent on the willingness of
commercial producers and investors to take a risk on new, developing
work.
A key purpose of OzMade Musicals is to enable new work, or important
work from the past, to be seen and heard, to be developed, and to
invite the interest of those who may wish to support it.
OzMade Musicals is a leading advocate for the Australian music
theatre voice. It
provides an opportunity for writers to engage with a creative team
and to perform a part of their musical before an audience.
OzMade Musicals
2007
OzMade Musicals 2007 will be held in late November 2007, with a
nationwide submission process for the ‘On the Drawing Board’
components occurring between March and July 2007.
