1. Submissions to the 2005 OzMade Musicals showcase are accepted from rehearsal-ready works of Australian musical theatre.

2. For the purpose of OzMade Musicals, the following definitions are provided:

  • A work of MUSICAL THEATRE is defined as 'a play which uses the languages of  music, song, dance and spoken word to propel the action, time and/or space.'  Whilst through-sung works are accepted, the composition of the various languages forms part of the assessment criteria.

  • REHEARSAL-FLOOR-READY is defined as having a sufficiently advanced book, libretto and piano score for the minimum of a rehearsed reading presentation (a score can exist purely as a vocal score with a piano reduction.)  The work does not have to have been published or previously performed to be accepted.  Writers with material in concept form, or which is under-developed, may not be ready for OzMade Musicals but may be suitable for other Magnormos initiatives (such as 'On The Drawing Board'.)  Please contact Magnormos for further information.

  • AUSTRALIAN is defined as written by Australian citizens or permanent residents. This includes the major contributors of the book, libretto and score. Works with international writers credited as providing 'additional material' can still be submitted and will be determined as eligible at the discretion of the submission panel. The subject matter of the musical does not have to be that of an Australian story to be considered an Australian musical.

3. Proof of the work meeting the requirements of point 1 (as defined in point 2) may be expected before a work is considered eligible for assessment.

4. All copyright on the submissions must be held by the writers, with licensing permission details attached to the submission where relevant (i.e.. when the work is based on an existing novel or play which is currently under copyright.)

5. Submissions must be "complete" (see point 6.) be received by the stipulated closing date, and meet all requirements as set out in these submission guidelines to be considered eligible.

6. To be considered "complete" (and therefore eligible) the submission must contain the following Submission Requirements:

  • A fully completed Submission form

  • The most current draft of the Script / Libretto in entirety, bound, with all pages numbered and titled.

  • The most current draft of the Piano / Vocal Score in entirety, bound, with all pages numbered and titled.

  • Proof of copyright ownership or permission from appropriate sources (where relevant.)

  • Additional support material for the application may be submitted at the discretion of the submitter.

    * Please note: to expedite the submission process, electronic submissions are accepted and encouraged.  We accept .pdf and .doc files only.

7. All materials submitted to OzMade Musicals.com will be archived within the Australian Musicals.com administrative offices, unless the submitter provides a stamped (by registered mail), self-addressed envelope with the submission for return, or notification of desire for the submission to be destroyed at the conclusion of the submission period.

8. If there is any difficulty completing any Submission Requirements, please do not hesitate to contact Australian Musicals.com via email at info @ australianmusicals.com, to discuss alternatives.

9. While recommendations for specific song choices are accepted from the applicant, the ultimate decision for which songs will be performed from any musical selected will be at the discretion of the OzMade Musicals 2005 creative team.

10. Should a submitted work be short listed, the writer(s) will be required to enter a contract with Magnormos granting permission to include the work as part of OzMade Musicals 2005, on a royalty-free basis.  Permission will also be required to create archival media products (photography, video, audio) of OzMade Musicals 2005, a copy of which will be provided to the relevant artists, and may also be used for the promotion of Magnormos, OzMade Musicals, Australian Musicals.com, and the primary partners of the event.  This contract, and all required permissions, must be received in order for the work to be accepted in the final short-list.

11. Any intentions for commercial production of the media products generated during the OzMade Musicals performance will be negotiated with writers at the time of entering the contract.
